CHAPTER THREE
Research
We focused on understanding how fine artists build personal brands online, what collectors expect from digital galleries, and how simplicity converts into commissions.

Research Methods
Before jumping into design, we needed to deeply understand both Nora’s vision and how potential clients interact with artist websites. The research phase allowed us to uncover user expectations, industry standards, and opportunities to make the experience both intimate and functional.
Competitor Audits, reviewed portfolio websites from fine artists, illustrators, and galleries to identify best practices and gaps.
Benchmarking, analyzed structure, features, and flows used by top-performing artist and creative portfolio sites.
Heuristic Review, applied usability principles to sketch initial flows and avoid common portfolio friction points
Key Insights
The research phase surfaced critical insights that directly informed both the user experience and the business model of the site.
#1 Navigation matters
Users prefer immediate access to artwork, minimal menus, large previews, and clean categorization
#2 The story builds trust
Buyers connect emotionally when they understand Nora’s process, inspiration, and personality.
#3 Commission flow
Custom artwork is intimate; the request process should feel like a conversation, not an e-commerce form
#4 Mobile Is the Mission
Most visitors explore on mobile first, demanding a fully responsive, touch-friendly interface

Ideation
We started by mapping the full user journey: from first arrival to artwork exploration to commission request. Early sketches focused on minimizing cognitive load while maximizing visual immersion. The goal was to create a digital experience that felt like walking into Nora’s studio, intimate, personal, and highly visual.
Concept
The creative direction centered around luxury minimalism: bold artwork showcased against clean, generous white space, with subtle typographic details to convey refine ment. The interface avoids clutter, allowing each piece to breathe. Color accents were carefully extracted from Nora’s own art to create an organic visual system that feels uniquely hers.

Refinements
Throughout multiple iterations, we fine-tuned the commission request flow, adjusted image sizing for mobile devices, and simplified navigation labels for clarity. Feedback loops focused on making interactions feel natural and intuitive, avoiding unnecessary steps while preserving the sense of exclusivity Nora wanted for her clients.

CHAPTER FIVE
